Tony DeRosa
Tony De Rosa is a member of the Barbershop Harmony Society joining at the age of 7. He grew up singing barbershop harmony under his dad’s (“Papa Joe”) direction with choruses in Rochester, N.Y., and Polk County, Florida. His life was immersed in barbershop harmony as he performed in his dad’s choruses, listened to his mom’s quartet, sang with his sister Chris in “The De Rosa 4”, and followed his favorite quartets, learning their songs and adding to his repertoire. He hit the International stage as a tenor, at age 12, with a memorable rendition of “Where the Angels Live,” sung by the “Cypress Chord Club.” Seven years later, after many appearances at International with District Championship quartets, he captured a gold medal (The youngest ever to win in the Barbershop Harmony Society at 19!) with the 1992 champs “Keepsake.” He attained this level again in 2000, repeating on the baritone part, as “PLATINUM” won the quartet championship. At present, Tony is the lead singer in the 2007 Gold medalist quartet “Max Q” (www.maxquartet.com), a distinctly artistic and talented foursome. Beyond that, he is a part of “Main Street” (www.mainstreetqt.com), whose jump into competitive barbershop landed them in 5th place at the international convention in both 2011 and 2012, 4th place in 2013 and 3rd place in 2014, 2015 and 2016. “Main Street” is dedicated to bringing traditional barbershop arrangements and look to the stage. In 2017, Main Street was finally rewarded with top honors and their hard work paid off as they received the coveted gold medal, as the current International Barbershop Harmony Society Quartet Champions!
Tony has years of barbershop directing experience. In his first venture, he continued his father’s legacy by directing the Tampa Heralds of Harmony to International competition nine years in a row (1994 – 2002). He currently directs two barbershop choruses between the Barbershop Harmony Society and Sweet Adelines International. Since 2007, he has directed both the Toast of Tampa Show Choruswww.toastoftampa.org ) from Tampa, FL. Under his leadership, this group has competed at the International level where they finished 3rd in 2015! Tony was also awarded Sweet Adelines International Director of the Year in 2013! If that isn’t enough, in January of 2012, Tony ‘came home’ to direct the Heralds of Harmony ( www.heraldsofharmony.com ) Show Chorus located in Tampa, FL once again. With great appreciation, his Barbershop life is full!!!! Tony lives in Winter Garden, Florida, and works as a freelance vocalist, as Music Director for the “Voices of Liberty” at EPCOT, the Dapper Dans of Disneyworld at the Magic Kingdom and the amazing new You Tube sensation "Voctave" as a coach to numerous barbershop and Sweet Adeline choruses and quartets, and as an active learning-tape, rehearsal CD producer (www.advocals.com). |
Debbie ClevelandDebbie Cleveland is the choral director at Gaither High School in Tampa, Florida, where she serves 165 students each year with a full program that includes three choruses, and SHOWCASE, a pop music ensemble consisting of sixteen singers accompanied by a live ten-piece band. Under Debbie's leadership, her choirs have maintained consistent overall 'Superior' ratings at yearly District MPAs for over 25 straight years. SHOWCASE 2010 was selected as featured performer at 2010 FMEA state convention, and the Gaither Concert Chorus was selected and performed four times in New York City cathedrals. Before Debbie took the position at Gaither High School, she built the Adams Jr. High program from one class of 30 into four choirs with 175 singers. Debbie currently performs as the lead singer of the 2005 International Champion Quartet "the BUZZ," and previously won gold as the lead singer of the 1994 International Champion Quartet "Showtime." She is also a studio singer for Warner Bros. promotional materials for educational choral publications.
