What is the Sunshine District Harmony Explosion Camp?
Since 1999 the Sunshine District of the Barbershop Harmony Society has sponsored a 3-day Summer Music Camp for Florida high school boys and girls and their Music Educators. Attendees will experience the very best of a Capella singing in the barbershop style taught by outstanding clinicians and quartets! It’s an excellent way for students to gain part independence, develop ear-training skills, learn about and experience singing a purely American musical art form, and sing in concert with their peers! Music educators will gain solid, usable teaching ideas and discover ways to generate excitement and attract singers to their program(s).
Where is the Sunshine District Harmony Explosion Camp held?
The 2023 Sunshine District Harmony Explosion Camp will be held on the campus of Stetson University in Deland, FL!
What are the dates of this year’s camp?
June 15-17, 2023
How much does the camp cost?
This year’s camp tuition is $200.00 per camper. Tuition includes housing, food, and materials for the entire time at camp!
What if I can’t afford the cost of camp?
SUN HX Camp provides a limited number of scholarships for students to attend. Please click on the registration link on sunshinehx.org and fill out the scholarship application if you are interested.
What about my chorus director? Can they come too?
Of course! Music educators ATTEND CAMP FOR FREE!
Where will I stay when I’m at camp?
Students, Music Educators, and Staff will reside in select dormitories at Stetson University.
Where will I eat when I’m at camp?
Students, Music Educators, and Staff will eat in the dining facility at Stetson University.
When do I arrive and check-in at camp?
You may arrive between 1-3 pm on June 15th, 2023
When will I leave camp?
Students typically leave camp after performing in the spectacular show at about 10 PM on Saturday, June 17th. If Campers need to stay an extra night on campus, they are welcome to do so for an additional fee of $20. Just select this add-on when registering for camp.
Will there be camp chaperones?
Yes! There is a requirement for every ten campers to have one assigned adult chaperone to the group.
Do I need to bring sleeping stuff to camp?
Yes! Please bring a sleeping bag, or sheets or pillows, etc… Dorm rooms are provided with a single bed, but with no linens, etc.
What is the Show Spectacular?
The end of HX Camp culminates in a fantastic show performed by the HX Students, teaching quartets, and various other acts. The show is a ticketed event open to the public, and Attendees can purchase tickets online at https://www.sunshinehx.org/sunhxshow.html.
Where is the show spectacular held?
This year’s show will be held at the First Baptist Church of Deland at 725 N. Woodland Blvd, Deland, FL 32720 at 7 pm on June 17th, 2023
